Appearance |
Build;
Fernheart has a slight build with small shoulders. Her muscles are small and underused. At all times Fernheart has a sickly look to her body. Even in green-leaf she looks very underfed and looks as if she hasn't eaten in weeks. In leaf-bare the small form is hidden by her surrounding clan-mates as they begin to lose weight as well.
From head to toe
Eyes;
Fernheart has deep green eyes that look blue when the sky is without clouds or when she is staring into the river. These times are when the flecks of blue in her eyes reflect the most. At night her eyes are more often than not mistaken for a blue colour rather than green.
Nose;
Fernheart's nose is a soft pink colour but is always covered by a wet mucous slime. The she-cat's nose is almost always running and she gets teased by her clan mates who say she should be called Runny-nose instead of Fernheart.
Muzzle;
Fernheart as a soft, snow white muzzle that is often covered in specks of herbs that have been lying around her den.
Fur;;
Fernheart has soft ginger fur that sometimes looks as if fire is dancing off of it. The she-cat has darker tabby stripes running throughout her body, slowly fading away until it reaches the tip of her tail
Tail;
The tip of her tail is snow white and kept immaculately clean at all times. Fernheart can often be found washing this part of her body.
Personality |
Fernheart was born a natural healer. From the moment she was born she had been fascinated with herbs, plants and the safety of others.
She has a quiet deposition but isn't afraid to speak her mind when she needs to. Her soothing, quiet voice is soft enough to bring a cat to sleep when in pain, a talent she learned about at a rather young age when her sister fell ill only a moon after their birth. In being silent she is able to pick up on the small things that other's seem to not notice such as the moods of cats around her.
Fernheart has a healer's mind. She can't stand to see the pain in others and tries to sooth the pain as quickly as possible. When a kit, Fernheart refused to fight and would often heal her den-mates when they got into a mock fight that went too far.
The true side of Fernheart comes out when she is healing someone. She is quick to snap orders to get what needs to be done finished quickly. To everyone but the patient and those helping the healing process she is nasty. She can get bitter when she has cats in her den that won't heal, or will refuse to rest when being told.
Despite her normally calm and soothing nature, Fernheart can have a nasty temper. She rarely takes this anger out on anyone but her self.
Failing is something that Fernheart hates, she accepts it when it happens to others but gets very upset when it happens to her. To most, failing is losing a fight or failing to catch a piece of prey. To a medicine cat it was a life or death situation. A situation that left no room for failure. The ginger she-cat learned this lesson quickly.
Skills |
Fernheart has a great memory for both faces and herbs. At a young age Fernheart was able to remember all the herbs that the current medicine cat had told her off handedly.
Her fighting skills are lacking greatly even when her mentor had taught her the basics. She was always afraid of hurting the other cat she was up against.
Her hunting skills are adequate but have never improved due to lack of practice. The only time she tries to hunt is in leaf-bare when all the prey is lacking and she feels need to help her clanmates. Fernheart often feels guilty when taking prey from the fresh-kill pile in the coldest of days and even guiltier when everyone forces her to eat in order to stay strong.
History |
Kithood;[/b]
Fernheart was born a healthy kit, or so it would seem. The first two moons of her life were filled with helping her mother care for her sick sister, Breezekit who was sick from the moment of birth. Everyday, always instead of playing with her other denmates, Fernheart would go to the medicine cat den and get Breezekit's herbs for the day. Day after day Fernheart would sit beside Breezekit and talk about the future. The two kits wanted so badly for Breezekit to get better... but she never did. Fernheart was only two moons old when her sister passed on. Fernheart had blamed her self at first for not caring for her sister well enough. Her mother would always tell her otherwise, that nothing could save Breezekit because StarClan had called for her. Fernheart was furious at StarClan for taking her sister at such a young age. She couldn't believe that their warrior ancestors could be so cruel.
It was in caring for her sister she realized that she wanted to be a medicine cat, she wanted to become a great medicine cat so what happened to Breezekit would never happen again. She vowed to save every cat that ever came into her den for help. Fernheart decided that she would care for every cat that was hurt or sick like she had cared for Breezekit.
Fernheart avoided any and all fighting when she was old enough to. Her den-mates wasted no time in learning how to crouch the right way, or fight a certain way. Instead, Fernheart was often seen healing the battered kittens and padding after the medicine cat, asking them what herbs to use and when.
When Fernheart was four moons old she started to see signs of her sickness. The first thing was coughing. It was occasional and when checked out by the medicine it was passed off as a slight cold. Soon after came her nose, running and covered in residue. After that everything came at once, her lack of energy, depression, and difficulty breathing.
A moon later her sickness seemed to pass. This wasn't true, the sickness only went into a sleeping state.
At this point she had told her parents of her dream to become a medicine cat. Her mother had accepted instantly, believing that her little kit would help save the clan one day. Her father had other plan's. I have one kit die and the other one wants to become a StarClan loving freak? Her father never had much respect for medicine cats and he rarely accepted herbs, warning's from StarClan and treatment to wounds. It was this stubbornness that cause his death when he refused to be treated after a battle with another clan.
Apprenticeship;
Fernheart almost made the mistake of becoming a warrior apprentice. It was at the last moment that she made the best decision of her life. She interupted her clan leader to tell them that she did not wish to be a warrior, something that shocked all members of her clan, but a medicine cat instead. The medicine cat accepted her as an apprentice and took her to the Mooncave where she was accepted as an apprentice in StarClan's eyes.Take a look; maybe then you'll understand
-
Fernkit shook as she stood in front of her leader. Puddlestar was about to make her an apprentice of MistClan... but was this what she really wanted? To become a warrior? Fernkit glanced at Waterlily, the medicine cat. "From this day on you shall be known as Fernpaw." Fernkit widened her eyes.
"Wait!" She called out, earning a few gasps from her surrounding clanmates. She had actually interupted a ceremony.
"I wish to become medicine cat apprentice" She said, keeping her back tall and strong. "I think I would serve my clan better as a healer, not a fighter."
-
Fernpaw glanced towards Waterlily, her new mentor, as they walked towards the Mooncave. Was it her destiny to become a medicine cat? Would StarClan approve or send her away, condemn her to become a warrior?
She took a deep breath and she plunged into the cave to share dreams with StarClan.
-
Fernpaw was sorting the herbs in the medicine cat den when she felt it coming on. She hadn't felt like this since... since a few moons ago when she was really sick. Luckily, no cat was around, so when Fernpaw began to cough no one was there to witness it. What would the clan say, if they knew that their medicine cat was sick? Would they shun her? Tell her to go stay in the medicine cat den not to learn, but to get better? She couldn't let them know.
-
Fernheart lapped up the herbs in front of her. They were the same ones she took twice daily. A poppy seed for the pain, two juniper berries for her breathing and some tansy for her cough. She silently prayed to StarClan that she would one day get better. But would she really? Every day she was reduced to wheezes and coughs of pain. It was the sleeping sickness, the one that tricked her into thinking it had gone away. It just kept coming back... or maybe it had never left. It was a sickness that could not be cured. It was a sickness that she had to learn to live with for the rest of her life.
-
Fernheart's apprenticeship was an eventful one only at first, having being apprenticed in the middle of leaf-bare. soon though, the prey, herbs and sun was plentifull and all was well... until Fernheart was sick again. It was of the same thing, this time Fernheart managed to heal it by taking a set amount of herbs twice a day. No one knows of her sickness.
The life of a healer;
Fernheart's mentor only recently passed onto StarClan, for the first time ever Fernheart is the only healer. This both excites and scares her.[/blockquote]

[/size][/blockquote]
I did my research, her disease isn't a made up one. It's called Aspiration Pneumonia
Its symptoms are:
Coughing
Respiratory distress, with rapid breathing and a high heart rate
Exercise intolerance, weakness
Nasal discharge
Fever
Depression
Loss of appetite
All of these she will have to endure throughout her life.
She takes these herbs twice daily to sooth her pain and try to rid herself of the sickness:
Juniper Berries for the breathing,
One poppy seed for the pain,
Tansy for the coughing,
Colts foot for breathing (if breathing is worse than usual)
She will occasionally, on her worse days, take travelling herbs to keep her strength up.
This disease is rare, I hope this is allowed. Cats get disease, sometimes cancer. The fact that they are feral should change nothing. Cats die at young ages all the time.
I have no plan to kill her just yet. She has a mild-medium case of this disease, something that doesn't need the "cutters" immediate care at all times. I hope that she'll find love some day, don't know how or when. Probably someone within her own clan.
Her theme song is: (two songs actually)
Sleeping Sickness - City and Colour;
Monster - Paramore
Ugh, research... I had to do some for this bio XD
Reference: Aspiration Pneumonia Information
Also took information out of Shadie's herb list, and the clan list for the names of the former leader and medicine cat.
Also, Fernheart was the first cat I ever made. She has more detail than ever before. The only things the same now are the basic basic detail of her appearance and her name.
This is taken straight from the bio at the original vengeance, as you can see I don't often follow anyone's bio forms.
