Hopemask sat by herself out here in the berry bushes, it was the only place she felt safe, and she couldn't help but hate camp, she hated the dens, she hated the Warriors den. Perhaps that was the reason, that den, most likely because other she-cat's slept in the same den and it was so close to the nursery she could just explode, and plus she was in a very hateful mood. The empty space beside her, killed her, she longed to have her best friend here with her, almost everywhere she went it taunted her that her mother had abandoned her to die and she never got to say good bye to him, execpt here. Here she felt peaceful, like Sockpaw was sitting beside her everywhere in the lovely smelling bushes. But even her in her safe getaway she still could not smile, the hate and the coldness that filled her was to strong, her past mingled with things that once made her happy, now meant nothing to her. Hopemask's very light pale blue eyes searched around, she let out a sigh and was glad no one was around, she looked down at the berries, tempted to eat one.
Hopemask sighed and looked down at herself, her lovely light brown fur covered with darker brown stripes, even in the light of day had a beautiful moonlit glow to it, she was a beautiful she-cat she couldn't help but be one despite her hate for most other she-cats, some were okay, but Queens and anyone who acted like her mother she just couldn't stand, it was insane. For right now, she was just glad to be alone, but it would be nice to have some company. Her mind wandered to a lovely tom, one in camp, one she would not speak off, she couldn't speak off, he was Medicine cat, his name was Darksong, she didn't know but he was different then other toms... something about him made her heart feel different and funny. She snorted and rolled over, "Stupid Hopemask" She uttered, "I'm such a mouse-brain" She said, she got up lightly and padded out of the bush, "I guess I better hunt before I head back" She said.

Darksong hated a lot of things. Sure, some would say he hated everything, but that's not quite true. He liked naps and being left alone, neither of which happened very often for him. Well, he almost got to take a nap today, but that was ruined by one of his most hated things: lazy apprentices. Darksong knew the elders den needed some new moss, so he told some apprentices who were fooling around in the camp to take care of it by sunhigh. Of course sunhigh came and went and it wasn't done. Not wanting to keep the elders waiting, Darksong decided he would just do it himself.
Thus here he was, out in the forest in search of moss. It didn't take him long to find some, which made him more angry, since now the lazy apprentices had no excuse. Darksong peeled the moss off of base of a tree and rolled it into a tight bundle. Just as he was about to pick up the bundle in his mouth, he heard a voice coming from a nearby berry bush. It startled and confused him.
Just then, he spotted a she-cat leap out of the bush. It was Hopemask. He guessed she must of been talking to herself, since he didn't see anyone else around. Darksong smirked and asked, "Talking to yourself, eh? Or does StarClan communicate through the bushes nowadays?" He joked with her. Would be nice for him to know if they did though, since he hadn't heard much of anything lately.

Hopemask looked up as she heard a voice, she jumped a bit, when she saw it was Darksong, a cat who had recently been on her mind, she snorted a bit, "No way" She said to him, "I'm to cool to talk to Starclan" She teased lightly, she smiled at him a bit, "I was just saying I should head back now" She said, "No one would have noticed I was gone so I guess it wouldn't matter" She said to him. "Why you all the way out here?" She asked curiously, she didn't know why he was out, but as a Medicine cat he was probably going out to get herbs, or something along the lines of that, if not he probably alreayd got what he needed.
She wondered why he questioned about Starclan, she wasn't exactly a cat who held faith in clans or even that of Starclan, she held little trust for many things, but it was good thing in her mind, she liked being defensive, she was starting to grow trust for some cats, but Darksong was the only one she really got along with. She smiled at him lightly, waiting for his answer.

Darksong had jumped Hopemask with his words, and he found that a bit amusing. In response to her saying she's too cool to talk to Starclan, he responded sarcastically, "I guess that explains why I speak with them so much, considering how lame I am." He was going to say something about how she thought no one would care that she was gone, but she asked about why he was out soon after so he answered to that instead, "Well, since our clan has the world's laziest apprentices, I'm stuck doing their jobs so I don't have to listen to the elders complain all day." Darksong did truly want to make the elders comfortable though, considering the queen who raised him was among them. It bothered him to no end that the young apprentices had no respect for the elders.
It was annoying to do their busy work all by himself, so he asked Hopemask, "Could you help me gather some more moss for the elders' den? I doubt this is going to cut it." He pawed at the small bundle of moss he had rolled up.

Hopemask had asked her question just in time, fearful and wary he may anwser the first question, she was relived when he answered the second one instead. She smirked at him a bit, "Yea, they are lazy" She said rolling her eyes. It was true, the apprentices were as lazy as they got. She was asked to help, actually asked to help!? But she needed to keep level headed, she couldn't give away her eagerness to help him. "Yea sure" She said to him lightly, she didn't mind helping him, even if it was just moss, she actually respected her elders. Well some of them... again she wasn't a fan of She-cat's, she honestly hated them, mostly out of trust issuses. She was abandoned by her mother and therefore after growing up mostly alone, she learned that She-cat's are always hiding something. Her mother never loved her... or she wouldn't have ditched her like she did. She had trust issues, it had honestly taken forever for her to get used to Darksong, ever since they were apprentices, and now she couldn't get the tom out of her head. "It'll be easy to gather more with two of us" She said.

He wasn't surprised that Hopemask agreed about the clan's apprentices be lazy. They tended to think the same way about a lot of things, and she was one of the few cats he got along with alright. Darksong had never really thought too deeply about himself and Hopemask, mostly because he continued to have a hard time getting over Dreampaw. True, she died many, many moons ago....but he still saw her frequently in his Starclan dreams. Whatever he was feeling, he decided now wasn't the time to dwell on it. Right here and now, he had to gather moss, and if he took much longer he'd seem just as lazy as the apprentices. He was happy to hear then that Hopemask would help, "Great, thanks....I saw quite a bit back this way." Darksong indicated the direction with a nod of his head, and began heading off, looking back to see if Hopemask was following.

Hopemask watched him quietly, she looked down silently, he reminded her of Sockpaw sometimes, just less... afraid, Sockpaw was playful and gentle, but he could be such a fraidy cat sometimes it was funny really. She missed playing with him, at least he wasn't a lazy apprentice... or warrior now, she didn't know. Hopemask looked at him, she nodded her head softly and followed after him, "That's good" She said to him, "At least it won't be hard to find" she added, "To bad the apprentices aren't more active or this would be a whole lot easier... of course then I wouldn't get to spend time toget-... I mean.. nevermind" She uttered quietly and kept going after him, she moved to his side.

Hopemask continued to talk to Darksong as he led her to the spot where he had found the moss earlier. She spoke more complaints about the apprentices, then began to say something else and stopped. Something about spending time together. Darksong couldn't fathom how another cat would like to spend time with him. Then again, Hopemask wasn't as mousebrained as a lot of the other cats in the clan. He wondered if maybe she was trying to get closer to him, and actually just as he was thinking that she physically moved closer to his side.
It made him feel a bit uncomfortable, honestly. He hadn't been close to a she-cat since Dreampaw had died, and he had always told himself that she was his meant-to-be thus since he couldn't save her he was now meant to be alone forever. Darksong slowly moved further from Hopemask's side as they walked along, but secretly yearned again for the closeness he once had.
Since he was so lost in thought, he almost forgot the task at hand. He actually had to back track a bit to get to the spot where the moss was, "Sorry, guess I'm not a great navigator...." Darksong soon found the spot anyway though, and began rolling up bundles of moss.

Hopemask watched him, hesitantly, she wanted to move closer again as he pulled away but she didn't, her eyes looked off, "Great to know" She uttered to him sounding harsher then before. She sighed a bit and then looked off, she headed off, "I always hated the taste of this stuff, I remember when I was a kit and tried to eat it it tasted.... ew" She said at last. She disliked moss but she didn't mind helping a friend no matter how he made her upset. She remember when she was little she asked her mother if everyone would love her like she did, her mother had said that everyone would love... so why did she leave her? Abandoning her in the forest which she now wandered from time to time, hiding in her berry bush which made her, not happy, but at least calmer.
Hopemask watched as the most came back in view, she groaned a bit silently and started to roll some up helping him, she glared at it in disgust not liking the smell or anything else about it, besides the fact when used as a bed it was soft and when used as a ball it was fun to play with. She looked off silently and wondered, "How much do we need?" She asked.

Darksong couldn't say he had ever tried to eat moss, heck his father would of given him a good smack if he tried. He wasn't really allowed to be a typical, silly and curious kit. Everything was about being the best warrior, which he had messed up by becoming a medicine cat. He could still remember rather vividly how displeased his father had been, he'd even spoke to the leader and demanded his son be put back as a warrior apprentice. Despite all that, Darksong continued on being a medicine cat anyway. Being a warrior never felt quite right to him, no matter how much it was forced on him. He had been utterly terrible at hunting, and still hated doing it as an adult.
Hopemask inquired about how much moss they needed as Darksong rolled up a second bundle. He thought for a moment, then smirked and answered, "You know, I really don't have a clue since I haven't done this in so long....been a long time since I was a warrior apprentice. Never really had to do this once I was stuck with the medicine cat...." He pawed at the moss he had already gathered, "I suppose what we have right now is more than the apprentices would ever gather."

Hopemask looked at him quietly, she didn’t know he had been a warrior apprentice, she came when she was almost old enough to be a warrior, she had spent most of her time after 6 moons being a loner, she taught herself to hunt, even made her own den, gathered leaves and patches of moss. But when she was nearly 9 moons she had been taken into Fireclan. That was where she started training to be a real warrior… something her mother wanted her to be. But then why…
Hopekit was born into the Moonclan nursery she lived there with her mother Silverstripe, she was beautiful kit at birth and everyone thought she was so cute. "Mother look! Everyone loves me now, but I still love you the most, your smile is so nice!" Hopekit said to her mother who smiled sweetly.
How did it go from that to what she was now? How did it go from such a sweet kind mother to this.
Hopekit was so happy when Sockpaw came to visit they played games and had lots of fun, she dreamed of the day she could be an apprentice too, she could hardly wait! Hopekit smiled up at her mother, "Mom I'm going to be the best apprentice I can be I promise I am going to be just like you and one day be a queen but first I want to be a warrior" She dreamily, her mother stared at her quietly.
To this
Hopekit smiled happily, only one more moon left and she would be an apprentice, she could hardly wait. Sockpaw had been very busy lately so Hopekit had no one to play with she looked up at her Mother, "Mother why do you not smile anymore, it makes me sad not to see you smile" She said sadly. Hopekit mother had slowly fell into sorrow over the past few moons and she didn't know why her mother would never say.
To just plain.
“DON’T FOLLOW ME”
The harsh words played over in her head cause a sad expression to fall over her. She looked away, “mhm… I don’t know I guess it’s enough” She said. At last mostly because she forgot to answer him.

Darksong looked to Hopemask to see if she thought they had enough moss, but it took her a while to answer. It seemed she was lost in thought, and by the look in her face it wasn't a very good thought. She finally answered him, well if you could call what she said an answer. He wondered if he should ask what's bothering her. Darksong never really knew what he was supposed to do in social situations, especially dealing with she-cats.
He opted to not ask, but decided if she persisted being sad later he might inquire. "I guess we should head back then." He told her as he pushed his two bundles of moss together and carefully lifted them up into his mouth. Darksong led the way back to camp, but then a feeling of dread overcame him.
They were going to the elder's den.
Twilightglow would be there.
Darksong wished he could bury his head into the ground and hide. Surely she'd have something to say about him hanging around a she-cat.

Hopemask watched him, she picked up her moss trying her very best to ignore the taste as she moved after him carefully. She walked along looking at him every now and then, though said nothing much at all. She became lost in thought again still questioning herself as to what she did wrong in life to make her mother hate her so much. She wondered if her mother was still alive, should she visit her? No.. that was a bad idea, plus she hated her mother. It was thanks to her mother that she held... a somewhat strong distrust for any and all females believing they will just abandon her in the end like her mother did. She-cats in her eyes were selfish and she was selfish as well. She wasn't afraid to admit it either. She looked towards him, noticing his expression which had broken her train of thought. "What's got your tail in a twist?" She meowed through the moss as best as she could.

To Darksong's surprise, Hopemask asked him about what was bugging him just before they reached camp. He debated, should he warn her about what was going to happen? Or maybe she already knew, it wasn't like they weren't in the same clan, so surely Hopemask knew about Twilightglow? Whether or not she knew his relation to her was another story.
He dropped the moss bundles on the ground for a moment to answer her, quickly while they were still outside of camp and thus out of earshot of others, "Well, you know the elder, Twilightglow? She's my um...well she took care me after my mother died...and she can be kinda...weird." Darksong wasn't sure how to explain it, "So I might as well apologize to you in advance for anything embarrassing she might say." He cursed the apprentices under his breath, wishing they had to deal with her and not him.

Hopemask blinked a bit, she stopped and dropped her moss not bothering to put it down at all. She looked towards him and listened, “Oh I see…” She said, she had never met Twilightglow but heard stories about how.. um strange she was. She sighed, “Yea I’ve heard stories, I don’t… mind” She uttered sparsely, he didn’t know of her hate of other she-cats it seemed. But still she supposed she should hold herself back against his kind of mother. Though the term made her eyes narrow she kept up her cold demeanor. “Let’s go then” She said simply and picked up her moss and headed to the elders den, keeping her ears back and her tail lowered, she was ready for a fight by her looks, but it was just her defense.
